well I'm no great military strategist but I can't see tremendous difference whether the congregation of Ukrainian troops is in Bakhmut or 30km down the rooad in Chasiv Yar . It's high ground . Leaves them behind you as you head west and as I understand it southern flank will be vulnerable . Quite sparse and potentially russian supply cut and a large group encircled . I always thought that leaving a strong force behind you was a no-no .
Quite willing to be corrected on ths by someone with greater knowledge than mine though .(FGS , not trickie or Beanjet though )
