Why, because the Russky Govt is spending like.. well a drunken russian... on the war effort (pretty much every competent economist knows war boosts GPD, but this does not have the normal positive peacetime economic impact, particularly when an anticipated short term SMO lasts for years).

Costs of the war greatly exceed the income Russia receives from sales of oil and gas, which is now about half of the annul total received pre-war.

So not only is Russky expenditure massively up, government income is down and falling fast, with the structural deficit expected to wipe out reserves by the end of 2024 if the war continues.

Then even if Russia wins, it needs to pay for rebuilding its claimed areas of the Ukraine which are also being severely damaged in the war since the Russkys have retreated into these areas.

It is undeniable that Russia has and will continue to suffer a huge economic loss because of its launching of a war on the Ukraine.

Yes the West is suffering a cost, but the cost of military and humanitarian aid is is spread across a pool of nations including Australia (bravo), Canada, NZ, the US, Japan, Sth Korea, Taiwan and pretty much all of Europe.

Plus add in a now revitalised NATO and US Military which is massively increasing its ability to supply weaponry.

Looks like Poots intervention is a man's vanity project gone wrong, given only in fantasy land was Russia under any threat which "could so obviously move it to a tipping point where they felt military force was their best option".
