Its really interesting to read the history of that region ie Belarus, Baltic states, Ukraine etc

To say the borders have been fluid is an understatement. You have people identifying as one ethnic group being part of their 'empire' for a period of time, then another empire rises up and they end up being part of that one. This has gone on over a long period of time so like many parts of the world you get ethnic groups living in another ethnic groups region.

The irony of it all is they are essentially the same people, look at tribal Africa, its a great example of the idiocy of it all. People in the east of Ukraine claim to be Russian, that is Vlads justification. Its all about power, all empires seek to divide and conquer.
