This is the cycle.... best thing to do is not start a war unless for very legimate reasons supported by the majority of world countries so as swift and "moral" as possible.

If we as planet keep doing this cycle the outcome is the same.

Invasion, war, extends longer than anyone anticpated on both sides, grind the aggressor down, leadership change, aggressor withdraws...
can take a 5-20 years.

If the aggressor does win, then there is instability on the captured lands or the first 20 years, occasional outbreaks until returned or 50 years later and a few generations have passed it is absorbed...

At present Ukraine people are being murdered for their land.
