Kremlin lies and propaganda:

Ukraine was shelling Donbas

Reality

Ukraine was never shelling their own civilians. Putin sent Russian forces into Ukraine in an invasion and an attempt to annex Ukrainian territory. Ukraine was fighting Russian forces, they were not “shelling Donbas”

Kremlin lies and propaganda:

The US or the EU or Nato or a combination of these groups or some other group instigated a coup in Ukraine in 2014 (the lie is unclear because the story of who is responsible constantly changes)

Reality

There was no coup in Ukraine. There was an attempt by Putin and Yanukovych to circumvent the will of the people. This attempt to force Ukraine to remain a puppet state to Putin caused massive protests, the response by Yanukovych and Putin allied forces resulting in the murdering over 100 protestors. The handling of the protests along with the murder of so many protestors saw Yanukovych lose all legitimacy and he, with putins help, abandoned his presidency and fled Ukraine. New free and fair elections were held to replace the presidency voluntarily vacated by Yanukovych. There simply was no coup.

Kremlin lies and propaganda:

Nato was meddling in Ukraine as it was forcing Ukraine to want join the alliance.

Reality

Absurd to say the least since Nato is a voluntary alliance, Nato cannot force anyone to join.

The Nato lies is often used as a justification as to why Putin invaded, however Ukraine was not in Nato and was neutral at the time of both of Putins invasions in 2014 and 2022, thus neutrality did not and was never going to prevent an invasion by Putin.

Nato was no threat to Putin or Russia and Putin, being the undemocratic dictator of Russia, has no right to veto the future of democratic Ukraine.
