An attempt by Ukraine to carry out a landing operation in the southern Kherson region has failed, Russia's defence minister, Sergei Shoigu has said, according to the Interfax news agency.
His ministry said earlier on Thursday that Russian marines, aviation and artillery had scuppered further Ukrainian attempts to gain a foothold on the eastern bank of the River Dnipro - and on islands at the mouth of the river, not far north of Crimea.
Kherson is one of four Ukrainian regions that Russia claims to have annexed since it invaded Ukraine in February 2022.
