Russia is definitely an imperialist country, both historically and in the present day. Just look at all the different races and cultures they subjugated and literally made part of the Russian Empire. Now Putin is following the footsteps of his historical predecessors, and is literally saying that Ukraine is not even a real country - just a construct of the USSR. He wants to take back territory that Russia previously controlled.
