the idea was to capture Kyiv and remove the governemnt before the west had a chance to arm Ukraine - that failed
another indicator was the size of the force used by putin - too small initially - because he overestimated the efficiency of the russian army and way underestimated the Ukies

not being able to put Ukraine away in two years of warfare reflects really badly on the russian army which was SUPPOSED to be second strongest in the world , and on rusisan weapons that they sell to the world - a couple of countries have pulled out of agreements to buy last year when they saw russian weaponry beiong defeated by drones and other western weapons

it's impossible to spin this war as anything but a giant embarrasment for putin - errors of judgement , inability of the russian army to penetrate and weaknesses in russian weaponry in modern warfare demonstrated .
You only need to look at a map and see how much of Ukraine still is in Ukrainian hands and how much land the Ukrainians have taken back in Kherson , Kyiv , Kharkiv etc from russian advances .
