@tinnitus - I have been a reluctant fan of Putin on and off over the years, always thought he was sensible, cruel, yes, undemocratic? yes, but a force for good in Russia, but never expected this. Madness and megalomania is manifest - it now remains to be seen if his inner circle can contain him.
In a way 2014 (Crimea) should have been a warning, but he was allowed to get away with this. He has always followed up on the things he talked about - this is something he must have been working towards all these years, expansion into territory which was inside the former Soviet Union. There will be rewards for some people, room for new settlers from Russia, the world will have another 4 to 5 million of refugees to accommodate . . . but Putin will have restored Russia to its former size and glory and combined with China will be a world power to be reckoned with.
In a way tyranny -v- democracy - I do hate such scenarios, but we can't seem to get away from this thinking. Must be biological
a sad time for the world and for many individual families and people who are losing their home and their homeland.
