If Ukrainians didn't like Russians invading them, perhaps they should have went ahead with the March/April 2022 negotiations, where Russia offered to withdraw it's troops in exchange for Ukraine staying neutral and non-aligned with NATO? As per David Arakhamia, the head of Zelensky's party, who was present at those negotiations?
