Ukraine/NATO provoked Russia to invade.

High level EU/US officials (including the current director of the CIA) were COMPLETELY aware (as far back as 2008) that if NATO kept expanding Eastwards and got involved in Ukraine, that would prompt Russia to intervene militarily.

They chose to keep provoking Russia, completely ignoring it's security concerns.

Ukraine chose to side with that strategy. Even though they had other options. Like remaining in peace, but neutral and not aligned with NATO.

Ukraine is now suffering the consequences of its own political mistakes, as well as political mistakes of US and EU.
