Becoming a NATO member is a part of the recent Ukrainian constitution.

Chief of NATO, Jan Stoltenberg, clearly stated that Russia invaded Ukraine over fears of NATO expansion.

Dozens of politicians (including the current CIA director) have been putting out warnings for decades, that if NATO pursued it's Eastward expansion course, and tried expanding into Georgia and Ukraine - that would cause Russia to intervene.

Yet they kept pushing Ukraine towards NATO membership anyway.
