    The stages of guilt are

Denial: Initially, a person might deny the guilt or the significance of their action. This is a defense mechanism to protect oneself from uncomfortable feelings.

Anger: As the reality starts to sink in, anger might be directed towards others or oneself. This can be a way of deflecting the uncomfortable feelings of guilt.

Bargaining: In this stage, individuals might try to negotiate or make deals to mitigate the guilt or its consequences. This could involve promising to change behavior in the future.

Depression: Realizing the full impact of one's actions can lead to feelings of sadness or depression. This is often when the weight of the guilt is fully felt.

Acceptance: Finally, a person may come to accept their actions and the resulting guilt. This can lead to seeking forgiveness, making amends, or taking steps to ensure the behavior is not repeated.Learning and Growth: Some models include a stage where the individual learns from the experience, grows, and potentially changes their behavior or attitudes as a result of the guilt.
