IMO there are 3 critical elements to this:
(a) That China is backing Russia (no limits)
(b) That National Security trumps economics (EG: Our Libs decided on banning Huawei from our Broadband
and China's BRI both on National Security Concerns even though it cost our Ag exporters dearly)
(c) That Russia started this war with 17% Debt/GDP while the USA is now rapidly heading to 130% Debt/GDP and most significant NATO countries 100%+ (exception Germany @ 66%)
USA: 121%
France: 111%
Spain : 111%
Portugal: 112%
Italy : 142%
Greece: 173%
Canada: 107%
Belgium : 104%

So as Einstein might say...the affordability of this war is "relative" by all sides
