you rephrased the question .....for putin using a strategic nuke would be a game changer and if he thought the west was against him before he would see something much more which I 'm sure would make certain he loses the war in Ukraine ....cannot be allowed as precedent*
US has alredy said ....privately ....to putin what their reaction would be so he knows

but it still is a real risk and a real possibility as putin only thinks of putin and not russias best interest
keep in mind nuclear blackmail cannot be allowed anymore than nukes can or it would be repeated

*the precedent of "conquest" in this age cannot be allowed either
(there is more riding on this war than territory in Ukraine or control of Ukraine government even and it isn't to do with hegemony either,
it's about acceptable international protocols and rule of law )
