in fact what followed Poland invasion was "The Phoney War" where there was very little combat.

If Hitler had left it there would ww2 have actually developed? Given he was a maniac bent on revenge for post ww1 humiliation in Versailles he invaded France and it actually was initially successful..... then ww2 got serious and Hitler just didn't know to stop and consolidate and going after Africa, Balkans, than taking on Russia was just too much even with Hitler's allies in west Ukraine..
