Navalny was no politician. A populist CIA/MI6-funded you-tube blogger at best.

His support never exceeded 4-5%. He was never of any threat to Putin. Especially not after his organisation got dismantled, and he was jailed for fraud. He never actually challenged Putin's grip on power, because he had absolutely nothing to offer to the ordinary Russians. Apart from loud slogans

Putin had nothing to gain from offing Navalny especially at this time. And who did? Certain parts of US/EU establishments. That's a fact.

    "...Alexei Navalny was a rarity..."
Sure was. Imagine a Russian-speaking US-born-citizen, that studied in Moscow alongside FSB and GRU members, returning back to US, flying drones over the houses that belong to the members of US government, riling people up against Biden and organising anti-government demonstrations all over the country.

    "...as the proudly Russian leader..."
    A leader of a CIA-sponsored organisation. Yep.

"...he was standing for a better Russia..."
No he wasn't. He was standing up for overthrowing Putin and installing himself as a president. He had ZERO plans as far as Russia's domestic and international policies go. ZERO plans as far as reorganisation of the Russian economy goes. His miracle solution to everything was just to remove Putin. Even though he acknowledged the fact that corruption in Russia is systemic. You can't remove systemic corruption by simply replacing the president You need to replace the whole system. All the ministers, all the governors, perhaps some of the military leaders.

Did Navalny have anyone that he could replace any of the current Russian government members with?
    Nope.
