The first question the Devil's Advocate will ask you is how do you know that NATO 'knew' that Putin would further invade Ukraine ?
Remember the repeated assurances the Kremlin gave to NATO and the 'World' when they were questioned over the build up of forces in what the Kremlin claimed at the time was related to military exercises and that they would not further invade Ukraine ?
So the Devil's Advocate thinks by necessity he should ignore most of what else you've said unless and until you can demonstrate NATO actually 'knew' Putin would unleash his wholesale further invasion and I seriously doubt you can do that ?
You also characterise 'NATO' as some kind of wholly independent force on the rampage with your '....that NATO would not expand into Ukraine.' bit when the fact is it only expands when countries which meet its criteria apply to join under its open door policy. Is it any wonder Ukraine was keen to join after events of 2014 and earlier elsewhere ?
