Asa bit of history, the Brits have been messing with Russia for a long, long time, in some ways you could argue the contributed the rise of communism.

A now confirmed story is that during WW1, the infamous Rasputin who had the ear of the Tzar and his wife was telling the Tzar to make peace with the Germans and focus on Russia. If this had happened it would have released over a million German troops to the Western front and may have changed the outcome of the war.

In steps the British secret service to work with some disgruntled Russians to take Rasputin out and as the saying goes the rest of history. You can argue the Brits were acting in their interests etc but it highlights that nations have been interfering with each other for a long, long time.
