The Danish government has announced plans to increase spending on the country's defence by 40.5 billion Danish crowns (£4.6bn) over the next five years.
Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen has been setting out plans to strengthen Denmark's military in a news conference this morning.
"We are not rearming in Denmark because we want war, destruction, or suffering. We are rearming right now to avoid war and in a world where the international order is being challenged," she told reporters.
The defence spending comes on top of the 155 billion crowns (£17.8bn) Copenhagen last year pledged to spend over the next decade.
As well as a significant defence boost, Ms Frederiksen also announced proposals to extend compulsory conscription to women.
Danish defence minister Troels Lund Poulsen also said during the news conference that conscription should be extended from four to 11 months,
