The info coming out so far was that they were not trying to be religious martyrs but had commercial motivations, the Ukraine contact was going to take them on to Turkey and then from there fly back to Tajikistan. The planning of the attack itself was good, timed to coincide with peak traffic and delayed police and fire response as a result. Most deaths were by smoke inhalation. Apparently the terrorists were speeding which is what drew the attention of Bryansk police and when they didn't pull over the tyres were shot out. If they had just gone at normal traffic speed they may have made it. The pickup was timed to coincide with the Ukraine missile attacks on Belgorod and Crimea but may just be coincidence.
