    No country is forced to join NATO. Sovereign nations have made their own choice to join NATO for their own safety, and given their history of domination by Moscow - only reinforced by the current invasion of Ukraine - who can blame them?

    PS there was no realistic likelihood of Ukraine being accepted into NATO anytime soon, so the whole topic is just a red herring. Putin wanted to take over Ukraine and NATO was the most convenient excuse he could think of.
