A Russian foreign ministry official has urged the US to "think again" on its assertion that Islamic State was behind the concert attack.
The militant group's Afghan branch, ISIS-K, claimed responsibility for the attack which killed at least 137 people. Washington officials confirmed the claim not long afterwards, and have also said that Ukraine had no responsibility.
In an article for the Russian Komsomolskaya Pravda newspaper, foreign ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova wrote: "Attention - a question to the White House: Are you sure it's ISIS? Might you think again about that?"
Ms Zakharova claimed the US was attempting to "cover itself" with the "bogeyman" of Islamic State due to having "wards" in Kyiv.
She also noted that the US supported the "mujahideen" fighters in the Soviet-Afghan war.
"American political engineers have driven themselves into a trap with stories that the terrorist attack at Crocus City Hall was carried out by the terrorist organisation ISIS," she said.
