Nope. Putin CHOSE to go on the offensive against Ukraine. It is great that he is suffering immense losses otherwise he might succeed in his genocidal fascist take over attempt of Ukraine.

American actions around the world, of which Ukraine was not involved in, does not give Putin the permission to invade Ukraine. If something is wrong for one country, the same wrong is wrong for another country. America did not provoke Putin, his decision to invade Ukraine was based solely on his delusional mindest.

Is he really "gaining"? Small temporary territory gains cannot be viewed independently to the immense cost to Russian lives and material.
