Just wars vs unjust wars implies just combatants
vs unjust combatants and contradicts the principle
of the equality of combatants and the equal/just treatment
of prisoners of war that that implies.

IMO war is a failure of civilisation as evidenced by the
loss of human lives which any civilised society purports
to protect. So for that reason , war is outside the ambit
of morality in civilised societies such as Aus where even
    capital punishment has been abolished.

I realise that there are important moral arguments to be made
based on differing beliefs as outlined below, but when it comes
to the crunch, IMO war does more damage than good and on that
fundamental level, civilised negotiations are preferable to war
as a means of resolving conflict .....otherwise as the ancient Greeks
realised.....war is tragedy on a grand scale.
