It is serious, if the French people make the wrong choice they could lose their whole country intervening in what effectively is a civil war in Russia's back yard and nothing to do with France.
The French people want nothing to do with Macron or any conflict as the politician's sons will be nowhere near the front, hence Macron's dismal polling. All Macron is doing is his former banker employer's bidding as the bankers always profit from the death of soldiers.
