FYI: This war started in early 2014 when Russia
conquested the Crimea to prevent it from being
incorporated into NATO because the purpose of the Maidan
aided and abetted by the USA was to enable the Ukraine
to join NATO and the EC thereby breaking ties with Russia.
The subsequent separatist war in Donbas was simply
a continuation of that war of which Minsk 1 & 2 were
failed attempts to resolve the conflict.
I'm keenly aware that this does not fit your fantasy but if you
can supply verifiable data to Wikipedia , it will gladly modify
its account (above) of when the war started according to its policy.
