I suggest you look at the history of Nato training exercises in Estonia, Latvia and Lithuania over the last 20 years as Russia hasn't invaded them and they are much closer to Moscow and St Petersberg than the Ukraine.

Bit hard to argue its a red line when its not.

Tip - Mexico and Canada ain't begging to join Russia in a military self defence pact so your hypo is a moot point.

Whereas the last 20 years has seen pretty much every European country bordering Russia (from Georgia to Finland) wanting to join NATO.
