Its a war of attrition.
Russia is not chasing big territorial gain in this phase, heavy bombrdment of Ukraine forces along the line of combat and occasional incremental advancements by relatively small formations if there is opportunity identified, then dig in and continue artillery.
At some point it may change to big arrow manoeuvre warfare with large armour formations.
