In Poland, the number of people with negative attitudes towards refugees from Ukraine is growing, while support for aid has halved.

A study conducted by the University of Warsaw and the Academy of Economics and Humanities showed a decline in support for both Ukraine and Ukrainians in Poland.

Currently, only 17% of Poles are willing to accept refugees from Ukraine for resettlement (compared to 37% a year ago).

✅ 61% of Poles want Ukrainian refugees to return home after the war.

✅ Percentages have dropped on all survey questions, except for school education for children - 82% support it. However, half of them advocate for Ukrainian students to be taught according to the Polish curriculum.

Support for aid to Ukraine has halved: 31% believe Poland should definitely help Ukraine. But in January 2023, this figure was 62%. Rather, Poland should assist - 43% replied; Against - 19%, almost one in five.

72% of those surveyed believe that despite the war with Russia, Poland should prioritize its own interests.

✅ Only 7% view Poland's relations with V. Zelensky positively, and 18% negatively.

✅ 52% believe that legislative benefits should not continue on the same terms. The number of benefits should be reduced - Supported by 95%.

Sociologists note that Polish attitudes are deteriorating due to the "pretentious stance" of Ukrainians, who want to have the same rights in the social sphere as Poles. Poles expressed that Ukrainians think everything belongs to them, demand social benefits, desire the same rights as Poles, believe everything should be free, and lack gratitude for assistance.

The study shows that more people are noticing differences between the nations. Poles have highlighted for the first time the "Eastern mindset, Soviet culture" of Ukrainian refugees, which manifests in a lack of concern for the common good.

With almost one million Ukrainian refugees currently in Poland, they have become a significant factor in the political "internal agenda." Researchers believe that Poland should develop and implement its migration strategy as soon as possible:

"Integration of foreigners and reception of refugees will be part of it. I believe that some Ukrainians in Poland or other EU countries will adopt our principles of statehood, community, and adapt to them, while others will transfer them to their own country. And this will be positive."
