The State Border Guard Service of Ukraine has officially confirmed the first case where a border guard shot a Ukrainian citizen❗️
The official version is as follows: in the Chernivtsi region, two men with machetes attacked a border guard while attempting to cross the state border, and he used his service pistol. One Ukrainian was shot dead, and the other was injured.
"In order to preserve his life, the serviceman was forced to use his weapon, resulting in one attacker being wounded and the other deceased. Medics were called to the scene. The State Bureau of Investigation, police, and prosecutors have been informed. Investigative actions are ongoing at the moment," confirmed the spokesperson for the State Border Guard Service of Ukraine, Demchenko.
According to journalist Vitaliy Hlaholy, the attack on the border guard took place in the area of the border checkpoint "Selyatyn" on the border with Romania, the evening before.
The men had machetes and a gas canister with them. Upon encountering the border guard, they knocked him down and struck him on the leg. The border guard responded by using a Makarov pistol
We can clearly see that they did not run towards the border but attacked an armed border guard with machetes.
The news is being pushed in the media without hesitation to deter potential border crossers. However, it is presumed that the opposite effect may occur - they might simply start arming themselves
