I don't agree sorry. One thing that would have been clear to the Russian leadership was that if we (Russia) do not defend ourselves now and remove this threat, within 10 years we will be fighting NATO on Russian soil when the NATO tanks roll in through Ukraine because of some pretext they have told the world. We all know the drill; "Putin is a mad man" "Putin is a ruthless dictator", "Putin is committing genocide" and we NAT need to invade Russia for freedom and democracy oh and Blackrock is helping us and is already in negotiations with the rebel Russian freedom fighters to "sell" us Russia's fertile land and extensive resources. Russia had no choice but to do what it did to protect itself. And let's be clear. Putin put it off for as long as he could. He appeased the USA/NATO warmongers from 2008 to 2022 but no way anyone was gonna tell the big bully USA what to do. Putin worked for the interests of his people, which is what he's paid to do.
