You seem to think it's my war? It's not, but I can appreciate that Russia aren't able to stop until the Kyiv leadership's finally decide to use diplomacy. I have also seen two years of pro-war/Kyivs mocking the Russian forces, while AFU are invariably pushed back (obvious mid-late 2022 exception).

The closest I can get to answering is to suggest the Russians probably don't think they can stop without agreements in place, so there would be no limit on how many they would need to secure their country. I would assume there would be many in both Russia and Ukraine who would want negotiations to take place almost immediately.

Now, for how long do you expect AFU to hold that sweet 0.03km2 north of the reservoir?
