"The tone of recent commentary by those true believers in the United States imperial system, whom Will Schryver describes as ‘Empire Evangelists,’ is becoming increasingly shrill, desperate, even unhinged. The logic of their positions is equally questionable. The cognitive dissonance resulting from the ongoing self-inflicted collapse of the United States’ imperial system has robbed them of their lucidity."

IMO HC commentary on this war re the US role and its 'indomitable" hegemonic global
leadership generally and this war specifically by "US true believers" at times becomes
    "desperate, often unhinged" too.

Of course one does not have to be Einstein to realise that
a major power such as China while dominating world manufacturing and
trade will lie doggo and allow the US to bully it militarily and economically.

As Graham Allison eloquently put it: "when there is a ruling power challenged
by a rising power , war is more likely than not" (the Thucydides Trap)

So with the spectre of war, where should Aus be?

Is going "all the way with LBJ" (US) on this war the right solution
for Aus given that more likely than not that:
    (a) The USA is a declining power
    (b) That China will likely rise a lot more economically and push back the US from Asia
    (c) That we have little prospect of replacing China as both a customer
. for our exports and a supplier of our manufactured goods

    The only question is:
-Will / when our economic needs trump our ideology (US support)?

Countries such as India are grappling with that now.
