Fact: There is a war

Australia's interest: stop this war before it spreads and negatively impacts our economy (national self interest)

Nub of the current war conflict:

(a) That the Ukraine sees it as a democratic right to join NATO and by implication
abide by NATO's rules and Regulations which may include harbouring US or
other NATO member's WMD aimed at Russia

(b) That Russia sees (a) as a escalation of NATO's threat to Russia's National Security
. (NATOs continuing Eastern Creep) in the same way that the USA saw the basing of Soviet WMD in Cuba in 1962
. as an existential threat to the USA and that the USA was prepared to use NUKES to remove that threat

The problem with being a bigot (seeing only one side of the conflict (ie (a)) and totally
rejecting the other side of the conflict (ie (b)) is that position simply leads to an escalation
of this war, not its resolution which, IMO, requires compromises between (a) & (b) above.
That's what's called Diplomacy

In order to achieve a Diplomatic Solution there needs to be a powerful independent/arbitrator and as of yet
none have appeared.

PS: to recognise both (a) & (b) above (the Agons) as legitimate concerns is simply being neutral..
and not bigoted as some bigoted posters on this thread maintain.
