At least one Russian has been killed in the border region of Belgorod, according to the local governor.
Vyacheslav Gladkov said an unspecified Ukrainian attack also injured two people.
Russia continually says Ukraine fires shells and launches drones into the region - claims it used to launch a fresh incursion into the area earlier this year, citing the need for a "buffer zone" to protect civilians.
