Perhaps if NATO and it's owners didn't ignore Russia's security concerns in the first place, this invasions wouldn't have happened at all?

Absolutely, yes. This was all about security for the Russkies.

But, IMO, we have kicked an "own goal" - the Russkies are "militarily" more powerful now albeit the war cost them in manpower and money terms.

We will need to be very careful if a war breaks out now.
