When it comes to Geopolitics judgement is made on outcomes; not ideology..History has at least taught us that as has science also .
IMO while it may have been aspirational for the majority of Ukrainians to join NATO and in particular to join the EC , IMO , its political leaders jumped the gun by underestimating Russia's resolve to prevent NATO from encroaching the Black Sea any further.#
I know many on these threads laud the Maidan and its objectives, IMO the Ukrainian political leaders should have been more circumspect given what had happened to Georgia in August 2008 . This should have been seen as "writing on the wall"
There are very few in the West who admit that mistakes were made in 2013 (ie: based on current outcome) and that populism can never trump raw power especially when that power is welded by a Nuke Power next door.
Sooner or later negotiations will have to begin and even Blind Freddy can see that the Ukraine was in a much stronger position to negotiate in 2013 than it is now and that for the people of the Ukraine either inside or outside the country is a mega Political Tragedy........".the egg can't be unscrambled" now!
There is a Greek maxim: "Know thy limits" and unfortunately for the Ukraine and its leaders since 2014, 'Know thy limits" was all Greek to them!
