With all the military and economic superiority, Russia is unable to take on a much smaller Ukraine. Drunkenness and corruption that led to Russia's defeats in all three one-on-one wars of the past century, Japan 1905, Germany 1915 and Afghanistan 1988 are still lingering in this war it seems. By sacking most of the generals past few days Putin finally seems to have accepted the reality of the situation. However, he prob made it even worse by appointing an economist to the top of military, his niece as his deputy and his bodyguard to lead the military at the hottest spot of the war, Kursk. Putin has effectively tamed the best of the current crop Gerasimov to a 'yes' General, wonder what top generals of the past Zhukov and Rokossovsky would have done under Putin. Stalin couldn't kill Zhukov but wouldn't have survived the corrupt FSB/KGB led by rogue Putin.

Russian military strategy in all the wars have being the same. Send wave after wave of meat with all the gear in possession and send more in case of a failure. Therefore Putin finally seems to have gotten it right this time "You dont need highly paid corrupt Generals to implement such a strategy, a donkey can do it". A donkey might get the military going but a country wouldn't survive if a monkey sits at the top.
