Confiscating Russian funds is attractive, but wrong. It would entrench the attitude that the US is a bully and not to be trusted.
And the Treaty of Versailles should not be forgotten. It was so punishing it evoked resentment in Germany and triggered an even more destructive war.
The US attitude towards Japan 79 years ago [VJ Day y'day] was far more constructive and Japan is now a trusted world citizen. Odd that two hated generals, Patten and MacArthur were voices of reason in the immediate period after surrender.
