I think the election is irrelevant. What will lead to a ceasefire is Russia taking control of and annexing the next 4 Oblasts and proceeding to destroy much more of Ukraine's infrastructure. Unless Ukraine is on its knees I don't think Russia will be able to trust US and NATO agreements. Hopefully that will be sufficient for Russia to accept a surrender on Russia's terms, as follows:

1. Ukraine becomes neutral and the US dissociates from it.

2. Ukraine relinquishes all its military weapons and disbands its defence forces.

Hopefully there will be a total collapse of Ukraine forces as soon as possible to hasten the above process and save lives. With luck this war of attrition will turn into a complete rout.
