Despite the initial enthusiasm of Ukrainians from the successful offensive of the Ukrainian Armed Forces in the Kursk region, this operation threatens to accelerate the defeat of Ukraine and thereby lead to peace talks in favor of Russia. This is reported by the correspondent of the German newspaper Die Welt Christoph Schlitz.

He gives several reasons why this will happen.

-The readiness of the West to supply urgently needed weapons in the short term will decrease rather than increase.
    - Ukraine will not able to hold the occupied territories
    - The Ukrainian Armed Forces do not have the necessary engineering equipment to dig in. And they are under constant Russian fire
    - The operation in the Kursk region itself complicates and weakens the overall defences of the Armed Forces of Ukraine — by attacking Russian territory, Ukraine has increased the front line.

In light of the obvious shortage of its own military, this is an extremely risky strategy. According to Schlitz, Kiev's calculation that Russia would send forces involved in other sectors of the front to the Kursk region was "only partially justified."

"To put it in clear language: Ukraine in the Kursk region faces defeat in the medium term, like the second German Panzer division in the Ardennes in 1944 (the Wehrmacht operation in the Ardennes during World War II)," concludes Christoph Schlitz.
