I think ukraine’s support of Hitler was more complicated than you imply. At the time Ukraine was bitterly smarting over the death of millions of Ukrainians in what became known as the holodomor. This was the direct result of two factors - ongoing resentment from Ukrainians towards the Soviet Union and Stalin’s appalling and short sighted agricultural policies (which by the way have left their mark on the Aral Sea). Further, Ukrainians weren’t very friendly towards Jews. However that had far less impact than the former in supporting Germany.

....and to back that up , Hitler never trusted Bnadera ....he did lock him up between 1941 and 1944 ......and the bulk of the Ukrainians fought for the USSR - 2 .5mill died during that war fighting nazism .....more per head of population than russia
