Podolyak (Ukrainian politician): "Starting January 1, 2025, the Druzhba pipeline from Russia through Ukraine will cease operations. Slovakia, the Czech Republic, and Hungary will be left without oil from it. In January, we will also stop the transit of Russian gas."
I recall that the "pipe" used to be a geostrategic asset for Ukraine, bringing in substantial revenue and a place at the negotiating table.
Now, Kyiv is proudly walking away from it.
Other countries dream of having such an asset and are building new gas and oil pipelines.
But that's the narrative in public discourse. In reality, 99% of the gas will still flow; it just won't be signed off by Ukraine, but by someone in Europe instead.
