Just how easy do you think it would be to hold a free and fair election in the midst of a War of aggressive attack, invasion and occupation which is now into its third year ? The UK did a similar thing during Wartime in the 40's....not surprising when you think about it.

Also, Britain did hold elections during WWII. In 1945 they held an election that resulted in Clement Attlee being elected Prime Minister, replacing Churchill. There were also numerous elections to fill empty seats in parliament during the war. Wakey-wakey!
