Zelensky and his handlers likely didn't believe NATO er America would fight to the last Ukrainian but with the desperate Kursk mistake close to ending they surely can now see the writing on the wall.

Why didn't Putin just avoid going to war in the first place then it would have been avoided?

According to you Ukraine is going to be in a "weaker position than when they stood in Istanbul, around 2.5 years ago..." but Putin is talking about the same surrender, sorry "peace" terms from around 2.5 years ago as the "foundation"?
