I think, some of us are of the opinion that negotiations would favour normal Ukrainians. Of course, such a step down after so long will make Kyiv and it's backers look a bit foolish. Unfortunately the ball is still in their court.
Sadly for Ukrainian civilians, there is no point in Russia having peace negotiations with Zelensky. He has repeatedly stated he would only come to the table if Russia moved back to the pre-war situation. Of course, Russia refuses to do that but they are still willing to discuss peace with compromises. As long as Zelensky sticks to his guns to no compromises, there will be no peace until Russia wins the war. It's that simple. Those are the facts, whether we like it or not.
