On the contrary I think that John Mearsheimer is one of the
world's top authorities in Geopolitics and I too am
a Politcal Realist ...not a Political Idealist like many on this thread.
But I dont think that he's infallible and being a Political Realist
IMO Mr Meirsheimer would not think so either.
We can be all wise in retrospect.
If we accept that Russia invaded Ukraine because of Russian
security/perceived security interests & John Meirsheimes has stated as much,
then logically the Ukraine's possession of 1600 Russian Nukes
posed an even greater threat to Russian security/perceived security
if the Ukraine with the assistance managed to hijack control of these weapons from Russia
particularly with these Nukes positioned on Russia's doorstep. IMO,
Russia would have forceably taken the Nukes from the Ukraine
before the Ukraine had an opportunity /capability to use them against Russia
which, IMO would have advanced the Russian invasion of the Ukraine by nearly 30 years
IE: Russia never relinquished control of these Nukes :
Its arguable that Russia subsequently breached those security agreements
as its also arguable that NATO led by the USA breached the "Not an inch eastward
by Nato" agreement following the fall of the Berlin Wall.
But in Geo-Politics as john Meirsheimer attests it all about power and influence
where the State is the highest power and Great Power states are the highest power of all.
This proxy US/Russian war is certainly testing that out, IMO.
By the way since you have such great faith in John Meirsheimer
that you too believe that this is a US/Russian proxy war provoked by
the USA
