NATO is a union of states for their mutual protection and internal conflict resolution. It is not a country, it doesn't have the rights of a country. It is an orgination.

NATO expanded because of actions like Putin invading Ukraine. It was declining prior to war.

Ukraine wasn't going to become a member prior to the war for the foreseeable future ( couple of decades), now it is very likely allowed to join NATO. There was invite form any country to join NATO.

Why are the Russians so afraid of an organisation NATO, it is not offensive, it is more like union. The only thing it does is it curtails aggressive illegal expansion from a country.

NATO should be offering a no-free zone over Ukraine to protect as a form of direct help, but haven't even done this. Letting Russia off the hook.

The only country to invade another COUNTRY is RUZZIA, currently behaving like Nazi Germany at the beginning of WW2, Putin is the love child of Hitler and Stalin. His thug mentality is making the lives of Ukraine and Russian people much harder, many are dying as a result :-( This is sad. If Putin declares war on NATO, then life will get interesting for a very short while for everyone one the planet.

Russia is gradually heading towards North Korea in this trajectory...
