USA has been intervening meddling in what is known as Ukraine today since the end of WW2 at least. USA is responsible for backing, financing and nurturing Ukranian nationalists neo-nazis (some of them actual nazi collaborators that committed atrocities) to fight against the Soviet government. USA's meddling caused this conflict in the first place. USA's involvement escalates this conflict and results in countless number of dead Ukrainians.
This conflict could have been resolved in 2022. But according to Nuland, Erdogan and Schroeder there were powerful "forces" that advised Ukraine against a peaceful resolution. USA is the main benefactor of this conflict. American weapons industry has been seeing record profits. So has American gas and oil companies. European economy (US's competitor) has been weakened. Russia has been weakened.
There was no invasion. Independent and democratic republics of Donetsk and Lugansk asked Russia for assistance in dealing with unprovoked Ukrainian invasion of independent Donetsk and Lugansk republics.
